Obituary

Dec. 5, 1940 - March 7, 2013

ELKHART — Mr. Jerry L. Fisher, 72, of Elkhart, passed peacefully to his heavenly home with his family at his side at 9:12 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013.

He was born in Elkhart on Dec. 5, 1940, to the late Harold W. and Edna (Ludwig) Fisher. He married the love of his life, Margie S. Albaugh, on Christmas Eve in 1960. She survives at home.

Also surviving are his sons, Brian M. (Lynn) Fisher of Toano, Va., and Ronald D. and Donald B. (Kim) Fisher, both of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Jerry's two littlest buddies, Scruffy the pug and Buddy the beagle, survive as well.

A brother, Richard Fisher; a son, Bradley Fisher; and a grandson, Jordan Fisher, preceded him in death along with his other beagle, Snoopy.

A memorial celebration of Jerry's life will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Zion Missionary Church, 1135 E. Hively Ave., Elkhart, with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. Pastor Joe Wenger and Pastor Dale Turner will officiate. In accordance with his wishes, Jerry's body has been cremated. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home.

Jerry graduated from Elkhart High School in 1958 and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Alaska as a radar operator. He later worked as a production coordinator at CTS of Elkhart for 46 years, retiring in 2008, where he served on the bargaining committee. He was a member of CTS Quarter Century Club and Zion Missionary Church, where he served as chairman of the board of trustees and was involved in the children's ministries.

He was an avid gardener and would often retire to his backyard to watch the birds and enjoy the fish swimming in the garden pond that he built and maintained. He also enjoyed oil and watercolor painting, genealogy and vacationing at North Carolina's Outer Banks, where he would walk the beaches for hours. He will be best remembered for his jokes, fun-loving sense of humor and his constant gentle smile.

Memorial donations may be given to the church, the Humane Society of Elkhart County or to Hospice Foundation. Online condolences can reach the family at www.billingsfuneralhome.com.
