GOSHEN -- Jenny Monroe, 81, formerly of Elkhart, died at 6:55 p.m. Monday (June 26, 2006) in Greencroft Healthcare Center in Goshen.

She was born Jan. 1, 1925, in Philadelphia to Stanley and Helen (Sikorska) Ostrowski. She married James Herold Monroe on Feb. 12, 1945, in New York City. He died Feb. 2, 2005.

Surviving are two sons, Robert J. "R.J." (Gail) Monroe of Middlebury and Gerald (Cynthia) Monroe of Crystal Lake, Ill.; one daughter, Jacqueline (Albert) Boccio of Amityville, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Stella Wiegert of Omaha, Neb., and Helen Humowicki of Staten Island, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Ostrowski; and a sister, Dolores Humowicki.

Private services will take place. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Monroe was a homemaker and devoted to her children. She enjoyed knitting and dance music.
