ELKHART -- Jennie Anna Maxwell, 85, of 1001 E. Hively Ave., died at 10:37 p.m. Friday (Oct. 30, 2009) in the emergency room at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Tumkey, Miss., to Cip Terry and Catherine.
Ms. Maxwell is survived by two sons, Terry L. (fiancée, Adaline Walker) Langford and Terry Y. Langford, both of Elkhart; one daughter, Ernestine Bell of South Haven, Mich.; six grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchidren; and five sisters, Mary F. Cook, Cleather Micki, Georgia Martin and Lily Bland, all of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Mercedeen Coleman of Tunica, Miss.
She was preceded in death by two sons, James and Chester Langford; two brothers, Tommy Jones and Nathaniel Terry; and one grandson, Terry Ellison.
Ms. Maxwell cooked at all kinds of food establishments and was known for her catfish and fried chicken. She attended Church of God of Prophecy for nearly 30 years and loved to sing in its choir, occassionally spoke during the service and cooked for all church functions. She loved to drive.
Friends may call one hour prior to Thursday's 11 a.m. funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Darren Huff of Church of God of Prophecy will officiate. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
