Mrs. Jeanette E. Smith, 81, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019 at 12 :20 pm at Woodland Manor Nursing Facility in Elkhart following a sudden illness.

She was born in Wakarusa on Sept. 22, 1937 to the late Harold and Virginia (Slocum)       Hostetter and is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley S. Smith, who passed away in Elkhart in 2003.

Surviving are her children Karen (John) Kidder, Bryan (Diane) Smith and Scott Smith; grandchildren Sami Hart, Jeanette Kidder, Ryan Smith and Tom and Shelly Meert; great grandchildren Olivia, Alaina and Easton Reames and Adrian Smith. A sister, Carolyn Barkman precedes Jeanette in death, as well as her good friend Joyce from Woodland Manor.

Graveside services will be held at Rice Cemetery of Elkhart on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019 at 11:00 am. Friends may gather at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Elkhart for one half hour prior for a brief viewing before the graveside takes place.

Jeanette worked at Dura-Cool of Elkhart for over 25 years, retiring around 2002. She loved life's simple things like spending time with her grandchildren and swinging on the front porch swing on a summer afternoon. She will be best remembered for her love and devotion to her late husband as well as being a devout and faithful Christian lady.
