ELKHART — Jeanette I. Satterfield Colman, 88, of Elkhart, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at 6 a.m., at the Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart.

She was born on Oct. 14, 1923, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to the late Montell and Josephine (Gardner) Morton. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her two husbands, James B. Satterfield and James L. Colman; a sister, Josephine Landis; and a brother, Roger Morton.

Surviving are her daughters Jeanene (Cecil "Bud") Konanz, Dianne L. Osborne and Kathy J. Dardis, all of Elkhart; a son, James B. (Doris) Satterfield II of Elkhart; a stepdaughter, Patty Ausdenmore of Seneca, S.C.; stepsons James Colman of Elkhart, Tom (Laurie) Colman of Watervliet, Mich., and Michael Colman and Steven (Kitty) Colman, both of Florida; sister Marilynn Hoffman of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; and one great-great-grandson.

In accordance to her wishes, Jeanette has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at 6 p.m., with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. Sister Nora Frost, chaplain at IU Health Goshen, will officiate and entombment of her cremated remains will take place at a later date at the Veteran's Towers at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart with Military Honors rendered by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard and Elkhart DAV Chapter 19.

Jeanette worked many years as a beautician, and was a member and reader at the First Church of Christ Scientist in Elkhart as well as the "Mother Church" in Boston. She was a devoted mother who enjoyed working in her flower garden and staying at Simonton Lake. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a WAVE.
