ELKHART -- Jean I. Saunders, 83, of Elkhart, passed away at 10:38 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital of natural causes.
She was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Elkhart to Hiram and Caroline (Hertel) McCreary. She married Raymond L. Saunders on Elkhart in 1948.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death, as well as brothers Wilbur, Glenn, Edward and Harold McCreary, and a sister, Arlene Leonard.
Surviving are two sons, Bryan T. Saunders of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Raymond L. (Deb) Saunders Jr. of Elkhart; two sisters, Lana K. (Keith) Berg and Linda R. (David) Jenkins, both of Elkhart; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Jean's life will take place at Jamestown United Methodist Church, 59218 C.R. 3, Elkhart, at noon Thursday, June 16, 2011, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. In accordance to Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Jean worked in sales and service at Continental Can Corp. (later known as Federal Paperboard) of Elkhart for more than 25 years until her retirement in the late 1980s. Memorial contributions may be given to the church.
