ELKHART — Jean Ruffner, 84, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 29, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Earl and Ruth C. (Striethorst) Diekman.
Survivors include her husband, Junior Lee Ruffner of Elkhart; one daughter, Deborah Smith of White Pigeon, Mich.; one son, Robert (Christine) Jernigan of Citrus Springs, Fla.; one sister, Joan Albert of Goshen; one granddaughter, Dezarae Urbina of Niles, Mich.; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Robert Jernigan; grandson, Derek Jernigan; and two infant daughters.
Jean was employed at Johnson Controls for several years prior to her retirement.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the 3 p.m. funeral service Sunday, Dec. 11, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
The Rev. Ted Stanley and Mr. Jim Taylor will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Elkhart County in memory of Jean.
