ELKHART -- Jean McManimie, 79, of Elkhart, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at 10:30 p.m. following a lengthy illness at the home of her son, Steve McManimie. Jean was born on Dec. 30, 1929, in Rockville to the late Thomas Edward "Bud" and Lucille (Hogland) Washburn.

As the former Jean Washburn she married Wilburn Earl "Mac" McManimie on June 4, 1950, in Rockville. Mac died on Jan. 22, 2003.

Jean is survived by her son, Steve McManimie, and daughter, Gay (Roger) Eby, and her two grandsons, Shawn and Brock Eby all of Elkhart. Surviving as well aare her sister-in-law, Jane Washburn of Sebring, Fla., and her caregiver, Jean Haag of Elkhart. Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Washburn.

Mrs. McManimie worked for 25 years as a secretary for Elkhart Community Schools starting at Ulrey Development Center and finishing at Monger Elementary School. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Elkhart, and the Order of the Eastern Star in Parke County. Jean was an avid walker and was often seen walking with her dog. She also loved to read with her grandsons. Jean was a 1947 graduate of Rockville High School and also graduated from the International Business College in Fort Wayne.

Please join with her family and friends on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Billings Funeral Home 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, where a service to celebrate her life will begin at 7p.m. Ed Frutig, a close friend of the family, will preside. Jean will be buried on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rockville Memory Gardens, Rockville.
