ELKHART — Jean C. Johnson, 77, passed away in her northside Elkhart home at 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, with her family at her side.
She was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late John E. and Zella (Osborne) Bradshaw. She later married James C. "Shorty" Johnson in 1951 in Elizabethton, and he survives in Elkhart.
Also surviving are two daughters, Judy (Everett) Kettle of South Bend and Betty Burkey of Elkhart; a son, John (Kari) Johnson of Castlewood, Va.; and 18 grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded by two brothers, Bill and John Bradshaw.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart. A celebration of Jean's life will also be there at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Ray Caudill of Willowdale Church of Christ and Pastor Floyd Hendricks of Highland Baptist Church, both of Elkhart, will officiate. Jean's remains will then be transported to her hometown of Elizabethton where she will be buried at Colbaugh Cemetery on Friday. Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton is assisting with arrangements there.
Jean worked over 10 years as a group leader at R&J Seating (a division of Georgie Boy) in Edwardsburg, Mich. She enjoyed making pillow dolls, quilting and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be given to the Center for Hospice Care or to a charity of one's choice.
