Jean Lucille Freed, 96, of Elkhart, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Millers Merry Manor in Wakarusa.
Jean was born on August 24, 1923 in Madison Twp, St. Joseph County to the late Evart and Florence (Kling) Gordon. She is preceded in death by her husband, James and her parents.
Jean married the love of her life, James Edward Freed on June 4, 1942 in St. Joseph County. He passed away on June 1, 2009.
Jean is survived her daughters, Barbara "Barb" J. (Steven) Stultz of Elkhart and Phyllis (Wes) Binner of Erhard, MN; 3 grandchildren, Andrew Binner (Domenick Pagnotti) of Virginia Beach, VA, Elizabeth (Thomas) Becher of Gainsville, VA, and Jesse (Rosi) Lake of Cedar Springs, MI; 3 great grandchildren, Cora, Cambry and Sophia; great grandson, Trey Binner and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean graduated from Madison Township High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elkhart. Jean worked at Smith's pharmacy, Hartman pharmacy and Super X Drug Store, finally retiring from Heilman Heating. She was a member of the Wm Tufts Chapter of D.A.R., Colonial Dames (War of 1812 Organization). Jean was known as a fantastic cook and baker, in which her family would always look forward to her meals.
A Graveside service for Jean was held on Monday, August 24, 2020 at South Union Cemetery in Nappanee, IN. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart is assisting the family.
