Jean “Jeanie” M. Davis, 80, of Elkhart, passed away after a recent diagnosis of cancer on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Jean was born on December 19, 1945 in Elkhart, IN to the late William and Helen (Smith) Davis.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen (Smith) Davis; two brothers, William (Bonnie) Davis and Carl “Pete” (Phylis) Davis; nephew, Bruce “Burly” Davis; and niece, Kathy (Paul) Levreault.

Jean is survived by her nephews, Bill (LaFon) Davis of South Bend and Robert (Vickie) Davis of Avon, IN; Bruce's significant other, Jo Markley of Elkhart; close friend who was more like a sister, Marty Kratzer of Elkhart; close neighbor, Bill (Barb) Bottoms of Elkhart; and several great nephews and nieces and great great nephews and nieces. 

Jean was a lifelong resident of Elkhart and a proud graduate of Elkhart High School. She spent her career working as an office manager and administrative assistant in the local RV industry.

Above all, Jean’s greatest accomplishment was the loving care she provided for her mother, Helen, in the home they shared throughout their lives. Her devotion and compassion was evident in everything she did.

Jean was president of Credit Women International in 1985, where she formed many lifelong friendships, as well as recently volunteered her time at the Owls Club. She was a former member of Albright United Methodist Church and New Hope United Methodist Church.

An avid reader, Jean especially enjoyed mystery novels. She loved traveling throughout the United States and had a deep appreciation for music, attending many musicals and concerts over the years. Her final concert was at the Blue Gate Theater, where she enjoyed a performance by her beloved, Texas Tenors.

Jean had a special place in her heart for animals, particularly dogs and feral cats. She was a kind and giving person who was willing to lend a listening ear to anyone who needed it.

A Funeral Service for Jean will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Pastor Scott Matthews of Elkhart Community Church officiating.

Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the start of the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home .

Burial and a brief graveside service will follow at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
