Obituary

Jay A. Krull, 71, of Goshen, passed away on Sunday May 25, 2025, at Majestic Care of Goshen. He was born on October 8, 1953, in Goshen to the late Gerald "Jerry" and Elizabeth (Johnson) Krull. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Mari Hall.

Jay, a graduate of World Harvest Bible College, was a man of the skies and the earth. He was known to many as "Captain Jaybird", a hot air balloonist who painted the Elkhart horizon with the graceful ascent of the Elkhart Balloon. But Jay was also a craftsman whose hands shaped the very foundations of our community with his work building homes with his father through the 1970s, '80s, and '90s, as well as through his own business, Krull Cabinetry. Jay's keen eye and steady hands created pieces of beauty and function, not limited to custom cabinets, his hobbies included building hammered dulcimers and even a few canoes. Among his proudest achievements were the homes he built for his family a testament not only to his skill but to the life they built together.

He and his wife were trailblazers in home education, embracing homeschooling when the path was still unfamiliar to many. As leaders in the Elkhart Homeschool Educators during the 1990s, they helped cultivate a thriving community of like-minded families that continues to this day. Jay and Lorri were also actively involved in their church leadership, Jay would often be seen on Sunday mornings playing guitar or bass during worship services. Jay had the heart of an adventurer, he loved Jesus, and he loved making and sharing food with friends and family.

Whether soaring through the sky or shaping the world with wood and faith, Jay left a lasting imprint—one measured not just in structures and scenery, but in the lives he touched and the legacy he carved.

Jay is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Lorri (Morris) Krull;  daughter, Tricia Blosser, and sons, Justin and Andrew Krull.
