Janice was born August 23, 1945, to Richard and Velma (Eairleywine) Leist. She passed away at home on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, surrounded by her loving sons.
She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1963, and from the Elkhart General Hospital School of Radiologic Technology, which she attended from 1963 to 1965. In the aftermath of the Palm Sunday tornadoes in Dunlap, she helped to assist numerous survivors.
She married Eugene "Ray" Yonts on May 27, 1966, and they were together until his passing on April 20, 2018.
Janice was employed at clinics and hospitals in Elkhart and Florida, where she lived with her husband and two sons for seven years. She worked in non-invasive cardiology while in Florida, retiring from the medical field in 1993. She went on to work at KIB Enterprises in Elkhart until her retirement in 2008.
She loved fishing with her husband and won a local fishing contest for the largest Northern Pike. She loved mushroom hunting, sewing, decorating, arts and crafts, gardening, and took pride in keeping an immaculate home. She was a fantastic cook, lived for the sunshine and warm weather, and absolutely loved listening to the Bee Gees.
Above all, she loved her family and two dogs, Sumo and Gizmo. She was kind, compassionate, and selfless, possessing a wonderful heart.
Surviving are her two sons, Steven R. and Ryan M. Yonts, both of Elkhart and formerly of Las Vegas, NV, and Florida; numerous nieces and nephews; and her best friend and sister-in-law, Deanna Lewis of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Larry.
