Obituary

Janice Rae Bloomer, a cherished lifelong resident of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2026, at 1:55 p.m., after a long and courageous battle with cancer. With the heaviest of hearts, we share that our beautiful Jan is now free from all pain and suffering, resting in the arms of Jesus in Heaven.

Born November 16, 1951, in Elkhart to the late Esther Louise Amsden (Putt) and Bernard “Bernie” Ephraim Amsden, Jan lived a life anchored in deep faith, quiet strength, and an overflowing love that touched every soul she met. Her trust in God was unwavering—she leaned on His promises through every trial, drawing strength from prayer and living with a belief that brought comfort and hope to us all. We find peace knowing she is now whole, restored, and filled with the joy she so often spoke of, surrounded by the Savior she adored. No more tears, no more pain; she is perfectly healed in His presence.

Her marriage to Rob was truly extraordinary. For decades, they built a life rooted in devotion, laughter, and unbreakable commitment. Through the appointments, treatments, and hardest days of her illness, Rob stayed right by her side, holding her hand with quiet strength and tenderness. Their love never wavered; it grew even deeper, a beautiful testament to “in sickness and in health.” We are forever grateful for the way he cared for her until the very end.

Her love reached far and wide—family, friends, neighbors, and all who were blessed to know her felt its warmth deeply, and she was loved in return just as fiercely.

Jan and her daughter Roxie shared a very special bond. Jan was Roxie’s best friend, her biggest cheerleader, the one who knew her better than anyone. She was very proud of the woman and mother she has become.

One of Jan’s greatest joys was her grandson, Bryce. Their bond was pure magic—filled with laughter, endless hugs, and a love beyond words. She adored him completely, beaming with pride over his kindness, spirit, and every accomplishment, big or small. She lit up in his presence, bragging about him to anyone who would listen, and he brought her unmatched joy even on the toughest days. That Nana-grandson connection was a precious gift she cherished greatly.

She cherished her big sister Julia “Julie” with all her heart. Despite the miles that always separated them, their connection never faded—they stayed truly close through every passing year.

An avid Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs fan, she cheered her teams with passion, sharing every game with joy. Her happiest escapes were to the family cabin up north, where she swam in the lake on warm summer days, took peaceful walks, ice fished in winter, and created lasting memories around the fire with loved ones.

Jan gave the best hugs—warm, enveloping embraces full of unconditional love that made everyone feel truly safe and cherished.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws Carla and Ed Bloomer; her brother Allan Arthur Amsden, and her sister-in-law Christina Bloomer.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert “Rob” Bloomer of Elkhart; her daughter, Roxanne Crone (White) and son-in-law Ryan Crone; her adored grandson Bryce Crone, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; her sister Julie Amsden of Laguna Woods, California; her brother-in-law David & fiancé Jen Schmitt; and her dear nieces Katelyn Meyers - Bloomer, Jennifer Bloomer, and Rebecca Bloomer of Wisconsin. Additionally, she is survived by a wonderful host of deeply loving extended family members and incredible friends who truly feel like family.

The world feels quieter and dimmer without her light, but we hold fast to the hope she cherished: this goodbye is only for a little while, and we will see her again—radiant and free—reunited with loved ones and forever with the God she adored.

We love you, Jan, Mom, Nana! Rest in the arms of Jesus. Until we meet again. We love you MORE!

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date in the spring / summer of 2026.
