ELKHART -- Janet K. Elijah, 77, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 25, 1934, in Elkhart to Melvin B. and Alethea M. (Snedaker) Young. On Dec. 22, 1953, she married William D. Elijah Jr. He passed away Dec. 5, 2005.
Survivors include her daughter, Nena DeFerbrache; son William Elijah; three brothers, Howard (Shirley) Young Sr., Jerry (Rachael) Young and Marty Young; three sisters, Margaret (John) Starr and Marcelle Cain, both of Elkhart, and Aletha Blanche (Jeff) Peerce of Glendale, Ky.; and three grandsons, Mike DeFerbrache of Michigan City, Joshua Snyder of White Pigeon, Mich., and William Elijah of Elkhart.
Janet was employed at Hubbard Hill Estates Retirement Community for nearly 20 years. She loved taking care of her rescued animal friends and working in her flower garden.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Bob Woods will officiate. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
