Janet Lucille Borgsteadt, 89, formerly of South Bend, passed away on Thursday, December 4 , 2025 at Brentwood at Elkhart Assisted Living.

Janet was born in South Bend, IN on October 19, 1936 to the late, Donald C. Palmer and Helen (Frick) Palmer.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Chris L. Runnels and Ricky Runnels and her beloved Yorkies.

Janet is survived by her children, Steve (Denise) Runnels, Lynn (Tim) Seabert, Don (Joan) Runnels, Diane (John) Rodgers, Maria Zinner, Todd (Deanna) Farrand; brother, Theodore "Ted" (Debbie) Palmer of St. Cloud, FL; and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Janet was a dedicated registered nurse.  She worked at Elkhart General Hospital and the Center for Hospice Care for many years.

She was a member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge 599 and a past member of Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren in South Bend. Janet was an avid reader including Horror books especially written by Stephen King. She enjoyed trips to the Casino in her spare time. She enjoyed needlepointing, planting flowers and a great cook. Janet was a dog lover who rescued Yorkies and gave them a forever home.

Janet had a great sense of humor, intelligent and a strong-willed woman who knew what she wanted.

Janet's family would like to thank the staff at Elara Caring Hospice and the staff and residents at Brentwood at Elkhart Assisted Living for their care during a difficult time.

There will be no services for Janet. She will be cremated.
