She was born Feb. 5, 1949, in Lindsay, Calif., to Marlin and Eunice (Moomaw) Brightbill. On Dec. 19, 1970, in North Manchester, she married John S. Berkebile.
He survives along with one son, Stephen P. Berkebile of Graz, Austria; one daughter, Elizabeth A. (James) Breitenbach of Doha, Qatar; one granddaughter; one sister, June (Glenn) Brechbiel of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Jerry (Sandy) Brightbill of Tonasket, Wash.; and her mother, Eunice of North Manchester.
There will be no visitation and cremation will take place. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 9 at Creekside Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. David Bibbee officiating. Ashes will be scattered in the Church Memorial Garden.
Mrs. Berkebile retired from the Wa-Nee School System, where she worked as a teacher/librarian for more than 21 years. She was a member of the church and served as the choir director. She graduated from Manchester College with a degree in elementary education, and received her master's degree from Purdue University in Media Science. She was a caring Christian woman who was liked and enjoyed by many.
