She was born Dec. 31, 1918, in Elkhart to Casper and Rose (Mais) Murphy. She married James Switalski in September 1942 at Notre Dame, South Bend. He died Jan. 12, 1964.

She is survived by one son, Ed Switalski of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Terri Switalski; and brother James "Tiny" Murphy.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart, with the Rev. Jacob Gall officiating. A private burial will be at St. Vincent Cemetery, Elkhart.

Mrs. Switalski taught high school and at St. Mary's and Holy Redeemer schools in Portsmouth, Ohio, from 1940 to 1954. After her husband's death, she operated Grady's Dairy in Elkhart from 1964 to 1968. She was a teacher at Edwardsburg Elementary School for 17 years and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
