Jane Lucille
(Pindell) Growcock
January 7, 1923 – July 2, 2023
Jane Lucille Growcock, 100, of Elkhart, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 2, 2023. She was born in Elkhart to the late Joseph "Collins" and Inez (McCoy) Pindell. She married the love of her life, George William Growcock, and raised five sons.
Jane is survived by her sons, G. David (Judy) Growcock of Overland Park, Kansas, Stephen P. (Sue Neuffer) Growcock and Harry R. Growcock, both of Elkhart; her nine grandchildren; and her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who had all gathered with local family to celebrate the holiday and then worked together to fulfill her party-planning and end-of-life requests.
Preceding Jane in death are her husband, George; children, John C. and William P. Growcock; daughter-in-law, Erika (Harry) Growcock; brother, Joseph Quimby Pindell; and sisters, Kathryn Marie "Kate" Wilson and Elizabeth Anne "Betty" Tousignant.
Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services hosted Jane's services on Monday, July 3, 2023, at 1:00 pm, with visitation beginning there at 12 noon. Billings Funeral Home Chaplain Jeremy Sarber officiated the services and entombment followed at Faith Mausoleum in Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
Jane worked as a school secretary at Osolo School, and also worked at several area decorating and floral shops. In her retirement years, she enjoyed bingo, paperbacks, game shows, Class of '41 breakfasts, road trips, hosting Volcano pizza parties and cook-outs, and keeping up with her friends and relatives. Chance brought her first housecat, Kitty, into her life in her 90's and they were devoted friends to each other. Jane was a longtime reader of The Elkhart Truth.
