ELKHART — Jane Louise Chapin, 90, of Elkhart and formerly of Long Beach, Calif., passed away of natural causes at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012.
A memorial service for Jane will be at at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart, with visitation there beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Karen Bray of Trinity United Methodist Church in Elkhart will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard and Elkhart DAV Post 19.
Jane served as a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a nurse and pilot.

ELKHART — Jane Louise Chapin, 90, of Elkhart and formerly of Long Beach, Calif., passed away of natural causes at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart.
She was born March 14, 1922, in Fremont, to the late Chester and Pearl (Teeters) Chapin.
Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Ward and Devon Chapin; her sister, Gwen Grimes; and her long-time companion, Dr. Al Swirsky.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Henrietta (Chapin) Wenger of Elkhart; and several nieces and nephews, including Sally and Jim Lindsey of Elkhart and Mary and Marty Bell of Louisville, Ky.
In accordance to Jane's wishes, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service with military honors is being scheduled for a later date, with entombment in Rice Cemetery.
Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home and Altera Cremation Services, both of Elkhart.
Jane was a lifelong R.N. and had most recently worked at the VA Hospital in Long Beach.
She had also served as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a nurse and a pilot during World War II.
