ELKHART -- Jane M. (Shoupe) Carr, 96, passed away July 14, 2010, at Riverside Village, where she had resided about a week.

Jane was born Aug. 19, 1913, in Mishawaka, to George B. and Iva May (Hurst) Bless. Jane married Clarence Shoupe on Jan. 7, 1938, in Rochester, N.Y. He died Sept. 28, 1963, in Baltimore. She married Harold B. Carr on Nov. 10, 1974, in South Bend. He died April 7, 2002, in Cape Coral, Fla.

She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (David) Denton of Elkhart, with whom she lived; stepson Charles (Julie) Carr of Mishawaka; and grandchildren Tracy Denton and Todd Denton of Elkhart, Adam Denton of Dallas, Jeff (Patty) Carr of Niles, Mich., and Doug Carr of South Bend. Ten great-grandchildren survive her as well, all of whom lovingly referred to Jane as "Nanny."

Jane was preceded in death by her sister, Rita Long.

While living in Elkhart, Jane was a member of McCoy Memorial Baptist Church and had been a former member for 30 years of New Testament Baptist Church in Cape Coral.

A service will be conducted by the Rev. Raymond P. Laborde of McCoy Memorial Baptist Church at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, at 11 a.m. Saturday (July 17, 2010), with viewing one hour before the service. Private burial will be at St. Joseph Memorial Park, Granger.
