DENTON, Texas — James Robert Wood, 91, formerly of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Oct. 25.
He was residing in Denton so that he could be close to both of his daughters.
James was born March 15, 1923, in Augusta, Ill.
He married his beloved wife, the late Eileen Simons, in Elkhart on Feb. 15, 1947.
James retired from the New York Central Railroad and was the owner of a small telecommunications company known as Penwood Sales. He was a proud veteran of World War II.
James was greatly loved by his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his three children, Christine Abbott and her husband Clayton of Arlington, Roberta Petric and her husband James of Denton and Carey Wood and his wife Teresa of Indianapolis. He is survived by his five grandchildren, Jennifer Petric-Spence and her husband Jordan of Colleyville, Christine Petric of New York City, Hailey and Lynsey Wood of Indianapolis and Brian Doyle of Gainsville, Fla. James is also survived by his great-grandson, Roman James Spence of Colleyville.
A gathering of family and friends will be for an hour prior to the 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, celebration of life service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Robert VanKempen will officiate. Inurnment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery in Elkhart.
