ELKHART — James Walter Teed, 91, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Elkhart Hospice House.
He was born March 7, 1922, in Elkhart, to Walter E. and Cora (Myers) Teed.
On Dec. 7, 1943, he married Marjorie M. (Brown) Teed in Leesburg, Fla.
In addition to his wife of 69 years, other survivors include his son, Daryl (Susan) Teed of Greenwood; daughter Sharon (Tom) Keene of La Porte; five grandchildren, Carla (Matt) Morgan and Bryan (Angie) Teed, both of Greenwood, Andy (Carmen) Teed of Indianapolis, T.J. (Joan) Keene of Noblesville and Charlie (Beth) Keene of La Porte; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Elizabeth Teed.
James served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the 313th Fighter Squadron 50th Fighter Group during World War II in the European Theater.
He was employed with Georgia Pacific Lumber Company for several years prior to his retirement in 1987.
He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkhart.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 1, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, July 2, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate. Interment will follow at Rice Cemetery, where military graveside honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Detail.
