ELKHART -- James B. Quinn, 81, of Elkhart, died Thursday (April 29, 2010) at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center after a two-month illness.


Mr. Quinn was born Oct. 21, 1928, in Utica, New York, the son of James B. and Josephine (Dolan) Quinn. He is survived by his wife, Donna F. Quinn of Elkhart; a son, Michael (Margaret) Quinn, of Williamston, Mich.; a daughter, Kathleen M. Quinn of Marine City, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Kimberly (Gary) Stanley of Elkhart, Christine (Carl) Kirts of New Paris and Susan (Mark) Isenberg of Valley Falls, Kan.; a stepson, Randall (Bobbi) DeLanghe of Avondale, Ariz.; and a brother-in-law Terry Heffner of Elkhart. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eileen Ann Quinn, and a sister, Mary M. Martus.


Mr. Quinn graduated from Utica Schools and attended Brooklyn Institute of Technology while working as assistant manager and night accountant at the Hotel Barbour in New York City. After enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Quinn served in Germany, England and the Canal Zone in Panama and was honorably discharged in 1952. James worked for 57 years in the metalworking industry, twice retiring and completing his working career as a consultant with AM General's military vehicle assembly and test facility in Mishawaka. He was a member of Bristol American Legion Post 143 and Elkhart Moose Lodge 599.


Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Monday celebration service, also at Billings. Pastor Dave Hackney will officiate. Entombment and military honors will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
