James A. McCavitt, 62, of Elkhart, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Elkhart, IN on September 6, 1963. He is survived by his daughter, Kylyn (McCavitt) Stopper.

James was raised in South Haven, MI before returning to Elkhart County. He was a hard-working handy man who helped resale items after estate sales. James also learned carpentry and helped rebuild and fix up several houses in the Elkhart area. He was a caring man who never hesitated to help anyone in need. James raised his brother with severe MS for many years and volunteered his services to many local churches where he would mow the yard and clean. He was dearly loved by many people in his community and will be sorely missed by them and his family.

A celebration of life service in James’ memory will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be given to the James A. McCavitt Fund c/o Charity Bruggner to help the family alleviate funeral expenses.
