Obituary

James G. "Chop" Maxson, 60, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Cass County Medical Center in Cassopolis, Mich.

He was born Aug. 1, 1955, to the late James D. and Jadine (McKibbin) Maxson.

Surviving are his grandmother, Bonita "Bonnie" McKibbin of Middlebury; one stepson and daughter-in-law; nine grandchildren; a number of brothers and sisters; and his cats, Leroy and Sweetie.

A former spouse, Heidi Badman Maxson Smith, his grandfather, Jennings McKinnin, and two siblings preceded him in death.

In accordance with the family's wishes, Chop is to be cremated and a celebration of his life will take place at VFW Post No. 88, 1519 W. Bristol St., Elkhart, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19. A carry-in dinner will follow there.

Chop was a lifelong biker through and through, and he lived for the freedom of the open road. He also worked for Plumrose of Elkhart for more than a decade and also worked for several supply manufacturing companies as well. He was an avid cat lover and served honorably in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy as a corpsman.
