Mr. James "Jim" Edward Stopczynski, 73, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, at 6:45 pm. He was born in Mishawaka on June 23, 1949, to the late Alex and Mary Catherine (Kintz) Stopczynski. He later married Sandra "Sam" Stopczynski, who preceded him in death in 2005. Surviving are his daughters Dana (Joe Eakins) Stopczynski of Indianapolis and Lesa (Jeff) Rohrer of Elkhart; his son, Scot (Heather) Stopczynski of Mishawaka; brothers Dr. Bob (Gizela) Stopczynski, Bill Stopczynski and John (Jeanie) Stopczynski; sisters Carolyn (Phil) Malstaff, Linda (Booge) Einfalt, Patty (Rodney) Snyder, Joanie (Jack) Thomas and Pam Stopczynski; and 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by a host of extended family, neighbors and friends. Jim was born and raised in Mishawaka and later spent his teen-aged years on a farm in Granger. He worked most of his life as a union carpenter and latherer. He could build or fix just about anything, as he was certified at wood, wire and lathe work, but his talents far surpassed his certifications, and he always seemed to be involved in some sort of home improvement project. He served honorably in the United States Army, where he was a helicopter mechanic. He was very proud of his military service and belonged to several area American Legion Posts, including Osceola #308. Jim loved to fish, drink a cold "PBR" and sing "Barbara Ann" on karaoke night. He was an animal lover, especially dogs, and enjoyed watching the Colts, Bears or the Fighting Irish play football. Memorial services for Jim will be held on Saturday, January 21st, 11am, at Adamsville Road Church of God in Elkhart.  Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services have been assisting the family with arrangements.
