Culp
March 9, 1957 – March 15, 2026
James “Jim” Elliot Culp, 69, of LaPorte, passed away on Sunday, March 15th , 2026. He was born in Nappanee, IN on March 9th , 1957, to the late Charles Culp and June (McElwee) Sherland.
Jim was a “Jack of all trades”. A Jim of all trades if you will. There was nothing he touched that he was unable to fix and was a great source of knowledge in a world before google. He was a dedicated employee of Burdine Auto Body restoring and painting damaged vehicles for 25 years. He took great pride in taking every wrecked car and making it look brand new. In his spare time, he could be found in his garage tinkering on everything from small appliances to engines and restoring his 1979 F-150. Most weekends he was camping at Rising Sun Campground with his family. They often spent their days on the river Fishing and listening to classic rock and country music. During the winter he enjoyed snowmobiling with his children.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his former wife, Thelma Culp; brother, Charles Culp; and son, Shane Dickt.
He leaves behind 8 Children: Stephen Culp, James (Jillian) Culp, Ryan (Kristy) Culp, Stacy (Christy) Dickt, and Shawn (Emily) Dickt. Stephanie Culp, Shauna Culp, and Katrina Culp. He also leaves behind, 23 grandchildren.
Cremation will take place and arrangements are being entrusted to Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart.
Jim Culp will be remembered for his love, strength, and the lasting impact he had on his family and community.
