James Dean "Jim" Burleson, 62, of Elkhart, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022 at his home.

Jim was born on August 21, 1959 to J.L. Burleson and Doris (Smith) Burleson. He is preceded in death by his mother, Doris Burleson.

Jim is survived by his two children, Casey and Heather Burleson; his beloved dog, Millie; his father, JL Burleson; sister, Wilma (Rex) Ellsworth; niece, Mikala (Sean) Mobley; and nephew, Brandon Ellsworth.

Jim was born and raised in Elkhart. He was a member of the Son's of the DAV. Jim was a cancer survivor for many years and retired shortly after.

Jim was an avid Chicago Bears and Blackhawks fan. He was a huge music fan (especially classic rock) traveling to see his favorite bands. Jim also enjoyed fishing, bowling, and the game of chasing the golf ball around the golf course. He took pride in gardening and taking care of his fishpond.

Jim had a great sense of humor (at times inappropriate) and his love and laughter will be greatly missed. He never met a stranger and was a friend to many.

Most of all, Jim was a devoted family man. He was his family's biggest fan, never missing a baseball game, hockey game, dance competition or school play.

A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Rev. Jeremy Sarber officiating.

A Gathering of family and friends will be 2 hours prior to the start of the service from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to any local animal shelter or D.A.V. Post #19 in Elkhart.
