ELKHART -- James Edward "Tennessee" Burks, 75, of Elkhart, died at 3:25 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 7, 2008) in Golden Living Center.

He was born March 12, 1933, in Collinwood, Tenn., to James Henry and Barbara (Hollander) Burks. In 1954, he married Mary Alice.

She survives along with one son, James Ray Burks of Elkhart; and one sister, Myrtle Reisner of Collinwood.

He was preceded in death by seven sisters from Tennessee.

Mr. Burks retired after 25 years at Skyline. He went on to own and operate apartment buildings. He enjoyed car racing, shooting pool and spending time with family.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation will take place.
