ELKHART — James Arthur "Jim" Durie Jr., 55, of Elkhart, passed away at 11 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born in Elkhart on Aug. 3, 1957, to the late James A. Durie Sr. and Nancy L. (Morrison) Durie. His mother, Nancy, survives him in Elkhart.
Also surviving are his daughter, Hillary D. Durie of Francesville; his brothers, Doug (Karen) and Randy Durie, both of Elkhart; his former spouse and Hillary's mother, Bonnie (Larry) Laub of Mishawaka; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jim's life will take place with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart. Pastor Clare Schumm will officiate.
Burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.
Jim worked nearly all his life in the cabinet and countertop business.
In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, photography and astronomy.
He will be best remembered for his kind heart, giving spirit and unique sense of humor.
