ELKHART — James Patrick "Jim" Doyle, 74, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 3, in his residence.
He was born March 4, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, to the late James P. and Elizabeth (Coffee) Doyle.
He attended Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron and John Carroll University in Cleveland.
He married Mary Ellen Gungle on April 4, 1964, in Copley, Ohio.
She survives as well as four sons, James P. (Patty) Doyle of Old Greenwich, Conn., Timothy M. (Laura) Doyle of Homewood, Ill., Daniel J. (Jill) Doyle of Westfield and Mark D. Doyle of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; and his sister, Patricia Delagrange of Akron.
Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Doyle, and sister LaVerne Doyle.
Jim retired from Miles Laboratories (Ames Division) after 25 years of service. He worked in training and development and traveled to many countries for Ames, including England, France, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Germany, India and Canada.
Jim then stared his own consulting firm in team building and leadership development. He and his wife spent several winters in Navarre, Fla., with many good friends. Jim was a huge Notre Dame fan, he enjoyed trips to the campus, the ND bookstore and he attended his first ND football game at the age of 7 in 1947. He also enjoyed the Indianapolis 500 race.
Jim was an avid marathon runner and ran in many marathons over the years. He was a 30-year member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Bristol. Jim was also an active member of the Jaycees when he lived in the Akron area.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church. Friends may also call for an hour prior to the mass. The Rev. Robert Van Kempen will officiate. In accordance with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place.
If friends so desire, memorials may be given to IU Health Goshen Hospice.
