ELKHART — James E. "Jim" Armour Sr., 61, of Elkhart, passed away, following an accident in his home, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, Wednesday, April 9.
He was born in South Bend on Dec. 14, 1952, to the late James A. Armour and Barbara J. (Butts) Armour — who survives him in Elkhart, along with his significant other, Elaine TaylorAlso surviving are his daughters, Jennifer Armour of Osceola and Tricia (Ron Rich) Armour of Elkhart; his son, James E. Jr. (Kara Geaugh) Armour of Elkhart; sister Rita (Howard) Ritzler of Goshen; and grandchildren Jenna, Julia, Riley and Ava Armour, Mia Fredrick, Mikie Stout, Kaitlyn Geaugh and little Zoey Armour, who's still on the way!
Nieces and nephews Sarah (Garth) Garrison, David (Kerry) Ritzler and Tommy (Amber Phelps) Friend survive as well.
A celebration of Jim's life will take place Monday, April 14, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart, with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. followed by a funeral at 6 p.m. In accordance to the family's wishes, cremation will take place following the services. Pastor Joe Smith of Dunlap United Methodist Church will officiate.
Along with his father, Jim founded Armour Construction and worked as a contractor in the Michiana area for over 40 years. He was most recently employed at Forest River Inc. of Middlebury, where he worked in maintenance and construction.
He was an avid sports fanatic and spent many years coaching in the Baugo Little League series as well as assisting with coaching in various other sporting events within the Baugo Schools system. He will be best remembered as a loving father, grandfather and son who enjoyed spending his time with his family and grandchildren. He was also a diehard Chicago Cubs and Bears, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan.
