ELKHART — Jackie M. Damp-Rookstool, 81, of Elkhart, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 17, 2012, at the Elkhart Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Nov. 10, 1930, in South Bend to Frank M. and Myrtle Forsythe. On June 10, 1966, she married Cletus Wayne Rookstool in Adamsville, Mich.
He preceded her in death April 11, 1988.
Survivors include her daughter, Pam (Doug) Yoder of Elkhart; three sons, Chuck (Jill) Damp of Bristol, Doug (Laurie) Rookstool of Lafayette and Don Damp of Ukiah, Calif.; sister-in-law Elizabeth Connard of Elkhart; 21 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Jordan and Rosemary Harding-Barnes; and two brothers, Lyman Mann and William Forsythe.
Jackie was a graduate of Clay High School. She was employed at Labour Pump and Elkhart Brass in the purchasing department. Later, Jackie and her husband were the owner and operator of Clete's Meat Market in Elkhart and Clete & Jackie's Burger Dairy in Jimtown. Prior to her retirement in 1995, Jackie was employed with the Elkhart Water Works as a cashier.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Goshen. Jackie loved playing bingo, Scrabble and Yahtzee. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, and one hour prior to the noon funeral service Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Andrea Bremmer of Faith United Methodist Church will officiate. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Rice Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
