Obituary

Ms. J. Leticia "Lety" Bonilla, 58, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully but suddenly at her home on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 4:37 am. She was born in Zacatecas, Mexico to the late Jorge and Francesca (Martinez) Garcia on April 23, 1963.

Lety is survived by her sons Isaac, Mark Anthony, George and Martin Bonilla, Jr.; daughter Marcy Bonilla; brothers Juan, Steve, Jorge and Esteban Garcia; sisters Gabbi, Rufi, Francesca and Andrea Garcia, Juany (Guillermo) Triana, and Isabel (Francisco) Esqueda, and grandchildren Layna, Martin III, Lina, Milo, Ellie, Silas, Alexander, Leilani, Julian Julius, Victoria and Mayan. She will also be missed by a host of extended family, dear friends and co-workers.

Services for Lety will begin on Thursday, February 17, 2022, with a family conducted rosary beginning at 6:00 pm at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. Visitation will follow the rosary until 8:00 pm. On Friday, February 18, 2022, visitation will continue at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main Street at 11:00 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon. Father Benjamin Landrigan of St. Vincent's will officiate and burial will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery.

Lety worked as a professional seamstress who stitched boat awnings together locally for over 10 years. Her real love, however, was her family, as her heart belonged to her children and her plentiful grandchildren. Additionally, she never met a stranger and was always there to help people whenever she could.

Lety also loved to sew at home as well as work, and also knitted, crocheted and made jewelry, rosaries and bracelets. Her love for beauty and balance wasn't confined to just her arts and crafts; it was reflected in everything she did, and her artwork was a wonderful glimpse into her heart.

She loved long walks to clear her mind, seeing what kind of bargains were going on at the thrift shop, listening to music and keeping up her plants and garden. Folks felt secure and at ease around Lety, and her beautiful smile and the natural friendly way about her just sort of drew people in.

Friends and family wishing to make a monetary donation in Lety's memory may do so by sending your contribution to either Lety's family (in care of Marcy Bonilla) or to an organization of your choice. Additionally, please be sure to thoroughly browse Lety's obit page, as you are able to leave condolences and memories, post photographs on her memory wall, and order other funerary items in regard to the family.

What Is A Child To Do?

By Marcy Bonilla

Our "Super Woman" has gone…and she will never be forgotten.

Mom was truly genuine; a rare gem.

Mom would show love to everyone that crossed her path;

She showed unconditional love!

Now, what is a child to do without their mother?

Losing our mother has left us heartbroken.

It has been a long and overwhelming process,

Filled with so much anger and pain as to why she was called home so soon.

It may take us a lifetime to accept how sudden you left us,

But all I know is that we love you, we need you and we miss you.

Always thankful and fortunate to have had had support and love of family,

Brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews that have shown us that we are not alone,

And their suffering is the same as ours.

We hope that you will take the time to join us as we say our last good-byes to a mother, a sister, an aunt, a daughter, a friend, and an amazing woman whose memory will forever live in the hearts of those she loved!!
