ELKHART -- Irene Louise DuFour, 95, of Elkhart, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Hubbard Hills Estates in Elkhart.
She was born March 18, 1916, in Elgin, Ore., to Clarence R. and Mary (Dow) Hahn, who preceded her in death along with two husbands, I.L. "Abe" Lindley and Douglas W. DuFour, son Larry Johnson, stepson Larry DuFour, sister Virginia Johnson, sister-in-law Marie Hahn and son-in-law Phil Kauble.
Surviving are her daughter, Bonnie (David) Shanholt of Elkhart; stepson Timothy DuFour of Illinois; two stepdaughters Sharon (George) Moser of Seabring, Fla., and Carolyn Kauble of Kokomo; and a brother, Ed Hahn of Elkhart. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 19, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011, with visitation one hour prior, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Hemmig of St. Paul's United Methodist Church will officiate.
Irene worked at CTS of Elkhart for about eight years, then went on to retire from Midwest Commerce Bank in Elkhart in 1981 after about 15 years there. She was a 1934 graduate of Jimtown High School, a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elkhart since 1946 and was a longtime volunteer for the Clothes Closet at St. Paul's.
Memorials may be given to the St. Paul's United Methodist Church building fund.
