ELKHART — Imogene J. Cressler, 88, of Elkhart, passed away at Elkhart General Hospital at 8:44 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013.
She was born in Elkhart on July 26, 1924, to the late James and Dorothy (Sharkey) Rowe. She married Willard E. Cressler on Jan. 18, 1947, in Elkhart. He passed away in May 2011.
Also preceding Imogene in death were a son, Billy Cressler; and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are her four daughters, Diana L. Smoot of Ocala, Fla., Cathy A. (Bob) Jarvis of Venice, Fla., and Laura K. Abbot and Lisa C. (Michael) Richardson, both of Elkhart; three sisters; two brothers; four grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In accordance with her wishes, Imogene's body has been cremated. A memorial visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. A private family burial will take place at Plum Grove Cemetery in Union, Mich., at a later date.
Imogene worked many years at Nickel's Bakery of Elkhart and was a longtime volunteer at the Humane Society of Elkhart County. She was an avid animal lover.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County or Second Chance Small Dog Rescue, 821 E. Lusher Ave., Elkhart, IN 46517.
