ELKHART — Howard A. Shriner, 87, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Nov. 4, 1925, in Kendallville.
On July 5, 1953, he married Joan E. (Staub) Shriner in Elkhart.
In addition to his wife, other survivors include a daughter, Candi (Terry) Kraus of Elkhart and three grandchildren, Janelle (James) Logan, Laci Kraus and Codi Kraus, all of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Shriner, and parents, Vernon and Margaretha Shriner.
Howard served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Yorktown during World War II.
He was a member of Elkhart Seventh-day Adventist Church. Howard was employed at Taylor Products as an inspector for more than 30 years prior to his retirement.
He often enjoyed boating on the river, going on family vacations, NASCAR racing and boat racing.
Cremation will take place and burial of his cremated remains will take place Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. in Prairie Street Cemetery. Pastor Don Greulich will officiate.
Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
