ELKHART — Howard Ray Dick, 84, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday morning, Aug. 31, at Elkhart General Hospital, following an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 11, 1932, in Nappanee, to the late Ernest V. and Amanda (Jensen) Dick.
In addition to his parents, brothers Don and Richard Dick, sisters Janice Johnson and Laurabelle Ressler preceded him in death.
Surviving are sons Carl (Jane) Dick of Elkhart, Randy (Wanda) Dick of South Bend and Michael Dick of Elkhart; stepsons Jack (Kathy) Littlefield of Elkhart, Jim Littlefield of Bristol and Joe (Terri) Littlefield of Elkhart; and a stepdaughter Judy (Will) Nisley of Bagley, Minn. Also surviving are many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister Martha Avrill of Nappanee; and his longtime companion Ruby Long of Elkhart.
Howard retired after 12 years at Ascot Industries and had worked for 30 years at Excel Corp.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Dramatic Order of the Knights of Khorassan or Dokies. He enjoyed fishing and horse racing.
Visitation for Howard will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Billings Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour prior to services.
Pastor Mark Youngberg will officiate. Burial will follow in Olive East Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps Funeral Honor Guard and DAV No. 19.
