Hobert "Hobie" Lee McKinney, 86, of Elkhart passed away after an extended illness on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
Hobie was born on April 12, 1939 in Pigion, KY to the late, Everett and Nellie (Akers) McKinney. He is survived by his wife, Ruby (Berry) McKinney. They were married on September 2, 2002 in Elkhart, IN.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Darrell McKinney, Everett McKinney and Rhoda Hicks.
Hobie is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ruby McKinney of Elkhart; children, Tina McKinney (Dustyn) Lingle of Elkhart, Ronnie (Kasey) Cooper of Wakarusa, IN and Tonya Coughran of Hasell, OK; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Hobie honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a machinist working at Richardsons and Amerikart in Elkhart for the majority of the time.
Hobie enjoyed the outdoors, hunting deer and bears as well as fishing on Eagle Lake. In his spare time, Hobie and his wife also enjoyed their long walks together.
Hobie was very blunt and opinionated. Yet he had a great sense of humor.
Most of all, Hobie loved his family and adored his grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service for Hobie at a later date.
