Obituary

Hing Sisomphou, 60, of Elkhart passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday February 3, 2022 at Elkhart General Hospital, following an extended illness.  Hing was born on April 2, 1961 in Battambang, Cambodia to Phead and Phoum You.

During the conflicts in her homeland of Cambodia in 1975, Hing was a refugee in Thailand at camp Kaoedang.  In 1986 she was selected to begin her life in the United States as a refugee and settled in Falls Church, Virginia.   There she met the love of her life Inthiva "Ricky" Sisomphou and together they were married in Fairfax, Virginia on January 25, 1989.    Together they recently celebrated 33 years of marriage.  Together they had five children who were all born in Virginia, in 1997 they moved to Indiana where Hing gave birth to their youngest son, Max.  Hing was able to stay at home and raise her family before she started working for the Carpenter company as her children grew older.

Members of Hing's family left to cherish her memory, in addition to her husband, include four daughters; Houen Chan, April Sisomphou, Wanda Stitsworth, and Faith Sisomphou; Her two sons Mathew (Tan Nguen) and Max Sisomphou;  grandchildren Chase, Gabriella, Konner, Liam Aiden, Landon, Ariana, lucus, and A.J. Lastly, Hing leaves behind three loving sisters: Him, Neam, and Sopheap You, and a loving brother Phon You.

Hing is remembered by her family as a great and loving wife, mother, aunt, sister, and grandmother. Her family was always first in her life, and it did not matter if they were blood relatives or ones she simply called family. Hing loved and cared for everyone as her own.  There was always room (and food) for more family at Hing's table.  She expressed acceptance of all through food. If you came to Hing's house you were going to be given a plate filled with her culture's delicacies- no matter who you were. Her simple Cambodian dishes will forever be remembered by family and friends, including her pho soup, and bahn xeo, just to name a few.   She also loved putting her cooking skills to work at Lucky's in Elkhart with her daughter Faith.

When Hing wasn't cooking for her large family and countless friends, she could be found tending to her garden which was filled with fruits, vegetables, and flowers.  She enjoyed fishing with her husband Ricky at Potato Creek State Park where they caught many Crappies. Additionally, they relished traveling to the areas of Toledo and Perrysburg, in Ohio, to fish for White Bass and her favorite, White Perch, in the Maumee River.

Her honest and authentic nature resonated in everything she did. While Hing was soft spoken, she was never afraid to speak her mind, and say what needed to be said.  Hing also embraced every opportunity to have a good time with her family and friends and was considered to be the center of the party- while enjoying a little Hennessy from time to time. Hing adored spending time with her sister Him You as they would travel together to see their sister Neam in Cleveland where they always made sure to catch up, reminisce, laugh, and of course, eat.

When Hing wasn't working hard for her family or spending time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life,  she was working hard for Carpenter Company where she worked for over 19 years.
