ELKHART — Henry C. "Big Hank" Robinson Sr., 78, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully following a brief illness at the Hubbard Hill Retirement Community at 7:50 p.m. Friday, June 17.
He was born Oct. 13, 1937, in Clarksdale, Miss., to the late John and Eleanor (Miller) Robinson.
He later married Imogene "Jean" Anderson in 1959 in Elkhart. She survives him after 56 wonderful years together.
Besides Jean, Hank is survived by his sons, David (Patricia), Steven (Alicia), Dennis, Norman (Zanzer) and Henry "Hank" Robinson, Jr., all of Elkhart; daughters Paulette (Bruce) Jones of Columbus, Ohio and Teresa (Robert) Crockett of Florida; sister Charlie Davis of Fort Wayne; 22 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A son, Gailen Robinson, and brothers Harry, Billy and John Robinson Jr. preceded Hank in death.
A celebration of Hank's life will take place at the Agape Missionary Baptist Church, 248 W. Wolf Ave., Elkhart, at noon with a viewing beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25. The Rev. Dr. Dannell Brown, Ph.D., pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow the services in Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
A 1956 graduate of Elkhart High School, Hank was a talented, all-star athlete who excelled at several different sports and was inducted into the Elkhart High School Athletics Hall of Fame in the 1990s for his track and field accomplishments. Hank was employed at Vincent Bach (currently known as Selmer) of Elkhart for more than 30 years and was a member of Agape and formerly of DAV No. 19. He was an avid football fan and was well known in the community for his active participation in civic and athletic activities and for being a loving, supportive and attentive father.
