ELKHART — Henrietta "Pete" Amiss Heverling, 85, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at 9 a.m. at her home.
She was born Sept. 2, 1926,in Ohio to the late Verlie and Lilly (Fitzpatrick) Rivers. In 1943 she married Harold G. Amiss, who passed away in Elkhart in 1974. She married Edward V. Heverling in 1975, and he also passed away in Elkhart in 1998.
Surviving are two sons, Harold J. "Jack" (Judy) Amiss of Granger and Phillip "Phil" (Susan) Amiss of Elkhart; brother Wellman Rivers of Columbus, Ohio; sisters Ruby (Herbert "Hub") Sands of Baton Rouge, La. and Audrey (Paul) Justice of Southpoint, Ohio; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Three brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter, Annetta Amiss, have all preceded her in death. Pete was a lifelong homemaker.
No services have been planned. In keeping with Pete's wishes, cremation has taken place, and burial will be held at Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date. Altera Cremation Services and Billings Funeral Home has been assisting the family with arrangements.
