Obituary
ELKHART — Helga M. Matthews, 74, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, at Riverside Village.
Helga was born in Friedberg, Germany, on Feb. 1, 1941, to the late Xaver Stegmann and Maria (Kaindl) Stegmann.
Surviving are her children, Rebecca (Matthew) Adcock and Danny Matthews, both of Elkhart; six grandchildren, April (Scott) Fall, Justin Smith, Shane Matthews, Daniel Matthews, Nathan Smith and Nicolas Matthews; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Chelsey Fall; and a sister, Marianne Schneider of Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Leonhard Stegmann.
Helga worked as a crew member for 20 years at the East Lincolnway-Twin Branch McDonald's.
She was a former member of the German Club. Helga loved to gamble and go to the casinos. She enjoyed playing bingo and poker and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at Billings Funeral Home.
In keeping with Helga's wishes, cremation has taken place.
