BRISTOL — Helen Catherine Walker, 96, of Bristol, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 10, 1916, in Bartley, Neb. to the late Peter and Mary Jane "Jenny" (Keegan) Fossen. She came of age during the historic Dust Bowl of the 1930s.
She married Stanley J. Walker on May 3, 1941, in Chicago. He died Nov. 8, 1997.
Surviving are her son, John S. (Anne) Walker of Tecumseh, Mich., seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leo Fossen of Sarasota, Fla.
Daughters Judy Wurmnest and Victoria Shortes, and her brothers Charles, Hank, Carl and Clarence Fossen preceded her in death.
Helen was a wonderful homemaker and was the pillar of the family farm for 49 years, especially during those years when her husband Stanley was engaged in his "other" career as a tool and die maker. She was active in 4-H and was a long-time member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church.
Helen enjoyed baking and sewing.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 6, 2012, at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 411 W. Vistula St., Bristol. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at the church where friends may call one hour prior to the Mass. The Rev. Robert VanKempen will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Church Building Fund. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home Elkhart.
