ELKHART - Helen R. Priebe, 88, of 28070 C.R. 24 W., formerly of 05367 Boyne City/Charlevoix Road, Charlevoix, Mich., died at 6:05 a.m. Friday (June 16, 2006) in Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born Aug. 9, 1917, in Horton Bay, Mich., to Benjamin and Margaret "Babe" (Spura) Belknap. She married Raymond Priebe on Sept. 2, 1938, in Horton Bay. He died May 19, 1997.

She is survived by one daughter, Margaret E. (Karl L.) Erickson of Granger; one son, Benjamin L. (Marie J.) Priebe of Boyne City, Mich.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marie Pearson of Tifton, Ga.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and George Belknap; and one sister, Bessie Koteske.

Friends may call two hours prior to the 11 a.m. Friday funeral service at Winchester Funeral Home, 209 State St., Charlevoix. The family invites those attending to a luncheon immediately following the funeral at Horton Bay United Methodist Church. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Priebe spent most of her life as a nurse, serving in several Detroit area hospitals. She was a member of Horton Bay United Methodist Church and the Ladies Missionary Society. She was known for her hospitality and cooked countless meals for the church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
