ELKHART — Helen Marie Paulus, 89, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Elkhart Hospice House.
She was born Dec. 10, 1922, to John E. and Mable (Chrisman) Ruple in Elkhart.
On Jan. 1, 1942, she married Lowell E. Paulus in Elkhart. He passed away July 5, 1987.
Survivors include daughters Judy Sheler-Young of Vicksburg, Mich., and Cheri (Jim) Morauski of Elkhart; son Ronald (Chris) Paulus of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Paulus; a sister, Bernice Leazenby; and five brothers, Carl, Robert, Warren, Harold and twin brother Russell Ruple.
Helen was a graduate of Jimtown High School. She later was employed at Elkhart Credit Bureau and First National Bank. She worked for Elkhart Community Schools for more than 10 years prior to her retirement in 1989.
Helen spent several years serving as a Girl Scout, Cub Scout and Brownie leader for all four of her children.
She enjoyed spending time playing cards, puzzles, exercising, cooking and canning.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Graveside services will be held the next day at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate.
