Helen Charlene Bloom, 87, of Elkhart, passed away of natural causes at 4 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart.
She was born April 1, 1928, in Middlebury, to the late LeRoy and Iva (Hochstetler) Miller.
Surviving are her sons, Bob (Debbie) Bloom of Elkhart and John (Jeanie) Bloom of Goshen; her daughter, Cathy (Gary) Zavoral of Niles, Mich.; sisters Marilyn Ziegert of Atlanta, Velma Kesinger of Elkhart and Ilo Fox of Illinois; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Charlene's life will begin at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart with a visitation starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. Pastor Samuel Kawenji of the Rise Up and Walk Church of Elkhart will officiate. A graveside committal service will continue at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, in Rice Cemetery.
Charlene worked as a production leader at Whitehall Laboratories of Elkhart and in the local RV industry nearly all her life. She was an avid rock hound and belonged to the Elkhart Mineral Society. She also loved to entertain others and was a member of "Impossible Productions," a Whitehall Laboratories theatrical group that would lampoon retiring employees. She was a high-energy lady who was always quick to bring a smile to someone's face with a story or joke.
