Helen Joan Troup, 90, of Elkhart, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023 at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Helen was born on August 14, 1932 in Columbia City, IN to the late Homer Anders and Tina (Bell) Hawn. She was married for 49 years to the late Jay Eldon Troup, on September 8, 1951. Jay passed away on Nov. 11, 2000.

Helen is also preceded in death by her brother, Harold, and her grandson, Jay.

Helen is survived by her children, David Troup of Fairbanks, AK, Michael (Cathy) Troup of Elkhart, Jim (Cher) Troup of Burlington, MI and Susan Troup of Edwardsburg, MI; brothers, Bill and Dennis; sisters, Charlene and Jodi; grandchildren, Angie, Andrew, Chris, Amy, Adam, Justin, Mike, Shelly, Nicole and Jamie; and 4 great grandchildren.

Helen worked at Elkhart Products, G.L. Perry and Zeisel. She enjoyed the outdoors and working in her yard. Helen was an avid reader. Her happy place was being on a boat in the open waters. In fact, Helen had the time of her life when she went aboard a sailboat during the Tall Ships on her birthday in Traverse City, MI.

Helen was very direct but had a hidden sense of humor that would come out at the most unsuspecting times.

Most of all, she was a doting grandma and loving great grandmother.

There will be no services per her wishes. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting the family.
