EDWARDSBURG, Mich. -- Harold Eugene Penn, 80, of Edwardsburg, died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday (June 12, 2008) at home.
He was born March 5, 1928, in Columbia City, Ind., to John W. and Audra Merle (Bolinger) Penn. On Jan. 25, 2003, he married Joy W. Oswalt in Elkhart.
She survives along with three sons, Allen (Lora) Penn of Bluffton, Craig Penn of Fort Wayne and Bruce (Rita) Penn of Wabash; two daughters, Kathy (William) Klug and Dawn (Ray) Copeland, both of Wabash; a stepdaughter, Vicki (Bob) Weaver of Elkhart; 16 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Ilene Penn of Wabash.
He was preceded in death by his second wife and mother of his children, Betty J. Penn; a daughter, Barbara J. Johnson; and a brother, Wilbur Penn.
Mr. Penn was a driver for Gulf Stream Coach Inc. for many years before retiring in 2000. He had worked for Morgan Drive-Away, Elkhart, was a member of New Life Christian Center, Bristol, and enjoyed shooting pool, reading his Bible and watching Christian television shows.
He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, serving from 1946 to 1948 on the U.S.S. Dixon. He also served in the U.S. Air Force from March of 1957 until October of 1957 when he was honorably discharged.
Friends may call one hour prior to Monday's noon funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Dwight Gosser of New Life Christian Center, Bristol, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at the Veterans section of Prairie Street Cemetery.
